Definition of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Technology

☆ Digital subscriber line (DSL), is a family of technologies that
are used to provide internet access by transmitting digital
data over telephone lines.
☆ It is a technology that provides higher speed access to the
Internet to homes over ordinary copper telephone wire.
☆ DSL technology allows Internet and telephone service to
work over the same phone line without requiring customers
to disconnect either their voice or Internet connections.
☆ Telephone lines can be used to convey analogue signals and
the copper pair has the ability to carry a range of
frequencies. ADSL makes use of the fact that voice signals
for telephone devices are all under 4 kHz, and utilizes the
unused higher frequencies to transmit data.
